Selmer began making the Series 9 clarinet in the early 1960's, after the profitable run of the Centered Tone series. According to the Clarinet Perfection website, the Series 9 had larger size tone holes without undercutting. Some folks say the that the Series 9 was designed for jazz musicians, the Series 9S for classical. I say, "Try it, you'll like it!".
