Professional Saxophones

Alto Saxophones

Selmer (Paris) Super Balanced Action #41662

$3,500

Selmer alto saxophone #41662 was manufactured in Paris in 1950. The original Selmer model name was "Super Action" but it is commonly know as the "Super Balance Action" and is highly sought after by professional musicians. This particular one was re-lacquered as some point in time, but fortunately whoever did it was careful not to grind down the tone-holes. We have maintained it in our shop for several years, but now the owner wants to sell it. Current lacquer is about 60-to-70% intact, but there are scratches and some worn areas. Because of the cosmetic flaws we are offering this horn at a price well below what most SBA's go for.

Selmer (Paris) Mark VI Alto #78338

SOLD

Selmer Mark VI alto #78338 was manufactured in Paris in 1958. It has about 60% of its original lacquer intact, with the usual small dings and scratches. About what you'd expect of a horn that has been played professionally its entire lifetime. It was overhauled in our shop in 2019, and the pads, corks and felts look brand new. Many players seek out these 5-digit horns because of their warm sound, great projection and comfortable feel. This one is no exception. Come by the shop and check it out!

King Marigaux Alto #26818

$2,400

From the earliest days of the saxophone there have always been manufacturers who will put another makers brand name on their horns. This is known as a "stencil". In this instance, the French company Strasser, Marigaux and Lemaire made saxophones for King. Hence the name "King Marigaux". This one plays like a dream: full, robust sound great intonation nice altissimo register. The original lacquer is about 90% intact. A great horn at a great price!

Tenor Saxophones

Selmer Mark VI Tenor #154768

$6,250

Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone #154768 was manufactured in France in 1968. It was just completely overhauled in our shop. The horn was completely dis-assembled and cleaned. All keys were swedged to take up lost motion, and all rods were straightened. New pads, corks and felts were installed, all pads were seated, and the action was lubricated and regulated. The original lacquer is about 50% intact, with the bare brass lightly rubbed to remove discoloration. It may not look like brand new horn, but it plays like one! Clean, quick response from bottom to top, nice warm sound with just enough edge. This road warrior has been given a second life!

Selmer Mark VI Tenor #115129

SOLD

Selmer Mark VI tenor saxophone #115129 was manufactured in France in 1964. It is identical to the 5-digit serial number horns which Selmer made until, in 1962, they reached #99,999. For the next couple of years they made the same design, only with 6-digit serial numbers. The give-away is in the Bb and C side keys. The 5-digit horns don't have the noisy steel ball joints, and neither does this one. A one-owner horn, played professionally, and maintained in our shop for years. Great, open sound, smooth mechanism, and the original lacquer is about 60% intact. Comes with two necks, the original Selmer neck and a Ponzol P5. Here's a chance to get that 5-digit sound at a great price!

Selmer Mark VII Tenor #288356

SOLD

The Mark VII got a bad rep when it was first released back in 1974. It was such a radical design, very different than what players had come to expect from Selmer since 1954. Now there are plenty of horns on the market that pay tribute to the Mark VII. Heavier horns with larger pinky keys. A lot of players see these VII's as a lower priced alternative to the VI and SBA. Ours is a very nice example. Free blowing and easy to control, lots of varied tone colors. Not a bad horn at all. Completely overhauled in our shop, including stainless steel springs, premium pads with plastic resos, and a slightly lighter key action. Very nice!

Soprano Saxophones

Yanagisawa S6 Soprano #9752941

SOLD

Yanagisawa has been making great saxophones since the 1970's. Their first soprano was the Model S6. The "S" for Soprano the "6" for Mark 6, of which these horns are an exact copy. This is most apparent in the design of the left hand palm keys, which are all on the same lateral plane, exactly like the Mark VI. This can take some getting used to, but many of the greatest players have made the adjustment. These early Yanagisawas are great instruments for someone on a budget.

Baritone Saxophones

Martin Handcraft "Typewriter" Baritone Saxophone #96345

SOLD

Here's a baritone with style! The Martin Handcraft Master baritone is know as the Typewriter Model because all of the keys have a round pearl touch piece, reminiscent of the old Underwood typewriters. Serial #96345 dates its manufacture to 1929. This horn was relacquered at some point, but it doesn't seem to have affected the playability or its enormous sound. Neck may not be original as it shows signs of being adapted to fit the mechanism. Again, doesn't seem to affect sound or playability. Comes in a newer, form fitted hard case.

Alto Saxophones

Andreas Eastman "52nd Street" Alto

SOLD

Andreas Eastman is one of many new brand names coming out of Taiwan. The Taiwanese have upped their game in recent years and are now making very nice instruments in the "advanced student" niche. This alto is Eastman's "52nd Street" model, an homage to the be-bop era and Charlie Parker. It's unlaquered, for that "vintage horn" look. Nice, freeblowing alto!

Yamaha 52 Alto

SOLD

Sorry, this one has sold, but we are always looking for good, used, intermediate level horns. Check back!
